A native of Paintsville, Kentucky, Nathan (Nate) Haney received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with an emphasis in Law and Public Policy in 2006. From there, he attended the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville, graduating in 2009 and went on to receive a Master’s of Business Administration from Bellarmine University. Nate currently serves as a member of the Executive Advisory Committee at Bellarmine University for the W. Fielding Rubel School of Business.
Mr. Haney is very active in Republican Party leadership, having served a stint as Jefferson County’s and Johnson County’s youngest ever chairperson. Nate Haney is on the Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Kentucky and Co-Chair of the Young Guns with State Treasurer Allison Ball. Mr. Haney was a delegate and served the Republican National Committee alongside Senator Julie Raque Adams as Kentucky’s two members on the Platform Committee at the Republican National Convention.
Haney practiced law for five years at Sullivan Law Office. In his practice, he advocated for the disabled and disadvantaged, performing over 3,000 federal administrative hearings. He became the managing attorney and director of business operations of the firm. There, he started a work injury litigation division. Sullivan Law quickly became one of the fastest growing firms in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
In the private sector, Nate Haney practiced state and federal administrative law for six years. Mr. Haney also started a trucking company that serves large freight providers as an asset-based fleet, a freight and truck brokerage and logistics strategy advisor. Mr. Haney was in leadership for the Young Professionals Association of Louisville, serving a term as Vice-President and recently won the recent graduate distinguished alumni award from the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville.
In November 2015, Haney was tapped to be the Deputy Transition Director for newly elected Governor Matt Bevin. Towards the end of 2015, Governor Bevin asked Nate to stay on as part of his “Kitchen Cabinet”. Haney served as the Deputy Secretary of the Governor’s Cabinet and is part of his senior leadership team. Haney was one of the youngest high-ranking officials in the country. In 2016, he spearheaded two important initiatives, the Criminal Justice Reform Initiative and the Red-Tape Reduction Initiative, both of which have received national acclaim.
Haney is a member of Southeast Christian Church. He is an avid golfer who now resides in St. Matthews, Kentucky. He is married to Meredith Price Haney and has three children: Miles, Hayes and Rawley.
